Unit 13

FMP (VERSION 1)

Concept

Synopsis:

Genre & Format:

The genre is horror & suspense

The format will be laid out as a teaser. I

Logline:

End goal: The protagonist escapes captivity

The plot: The paranoid protagonist takes dangerous steps to prevent his stalker from getting a hold of dangerous weaponry

The climax: A catalyst explosion, causes the stalker to act and steal something dangerous.

The resolution: The appearance of the stalker puts the viewers doubt to rest.

Note

My original concept was very similar to what it came to be but I felt my original idea was too strong for the intended target audience but I also felt a lot of the footage wouldn't of been my own.

Proposal

Note

My original proposal went in a completely different direction compared to my concept and I was intending on incorporating the Simpsons and having the target be younger but not just that, inadvertently the Simpsons was my inspiration for joining the course curtsey of videos I had watched of people recreating the game, Simpsons Hit & Run and I felt this was a good way to pay honour to that but I felt a lot of the content wouldn't be my own so I took a step back and re-evaluated my entire FMP.

Rationale

Throughout this course, I have taken a better liking to creative media because of the experience and knowledge I have gained, examples of this include unit 9, I had decided to create a video game which required me to create and format my script as well as create character profiles, I had created similar projects in the previous year but not to the depth and detail that was needed in the prior year, for example, my script the previous year was lacking in length as well as detail. While my work on creating character profiles was less detailed and focused on other aspects of the characters.

Unit 10 also needed me to study target audiences, specifically, tween audiences in more depth, which required me to breakdown a show that was aimed at tweens and discuss the link between the audience and the show. This qualification also required me to enter new territory, which was creating a Harvard essay, the Harvard essay involved in-detail research on a specialised subject. The knowledge and experience from these units will allow me to apply these skills such as the formatting to my current work, allowing me to produce better work since formatting hasn't always been my forte, additionally I also plan to use skills from my previous years, including website building, which is something I've done over the previous academic years but creating a website will give me an even easier time to format my FMP, I hope formatting my FMP in such a way will also me to expand my skill and knowledge further as well as showing said improvements visually.

Project Concept

My FMP will be a trailer based off the first season of The Simpsons, the trailer will consist of visual and audio queues as well as a script. The trailer will also feature a narration with a sequence of visual effects alongside it. My FMP will feature research, character profiles, reflection and bibliography documents. The research will include an in-depth look into the Simpsons while looking at the pros, cons and controversies that the show has generated while also mentioning why it inspired me. My character profile documents will feature the characters looks, backstory and personality. I will make comparisons with the characters from the Simpsons and compare them to other similar tv shows, such as family guy and American dad. My reflection will feature my personal and professional opinion on how I conduct my work. The bibliography will be presented in a Harvard format and will include websites, books and articles that I will take advantage of to reach my end goal of having a well thought out and complete FMP. The documents and trailer will be presented on Wix, an app that supplies the tools to create a website, To complete this FMP in a thorough, well thought out and timely manner, it will require me to utilise and apply the necessary skills I have gained throughout this academic year, Including but not limited to formatting scripts, creating in-depth character profiles, creating detailed target audience documents and website building.

Evaluation

To evaluate my FMP, I will gather feedback from my peers from my completed work and I will be incorporating said feedback into my reflection. My reflection will include a day-to-day documentation of my progression as well as my regressions. The reflection will also include my personal feelings and my opinions on the goings-on. I will gather feedback from my peers from my completed work and I will be incorporating said feedback into my reflection. The feedback will be gathered through the usage of Microsoft Forms, which allows the user to create a feedback form, This feedback form will be supplied to my peers via a link, incorporated into my website, which is how I intend to present my whole completed FMP. As well as being mentioned in my reflection, the feedback will also be mentioned in my what, why and how reflective document. The document will be further evidence on my thought process, throughout the entire FMP.

Proposed Research Sources

All my research sources, primary and secondary will be integrated into a Harvard Formatted bibliography, most of the resources will come from TV shows, for the sake of the visual and audio aspect. While magazines will help me improve the visual viewpoint of the FMP. The websites that I will be studying will discuss script writing and supply examples of them, helping me expand my knowledge on the detail required to create a well panned out script.

27 February – stuck on ideas, asking people their ideas, started the proposal, coming up with the idea as I go along, thought of doing radio drama, decided to move away from that as I did that for my last FMP, thinking of presenting my current FMP on wix.

5 March – working on 2 and three

6 March – complete my proposal 3 & 4, ideas just flowed, coming up with ideas as I go along

12 March – Feedback I received on previous work has unexpectedly delayed me; my attention has now turned to other pieces of work. My current work will now be put on hold. I don't find it to be an issue though.

13 March – Previous unit work is now on the forefront of my mind, My Fmp has continued to be put on hold, and I've come to the realisation my FMP proposal will need an overhaul due to a mix- up with a previous unit. I have also been informed work needs to be resubmitted by next week. This has become rather stressful. I don't feel confident the work will be in on time.

19 March – I have continued working on the previous units work but I was concerned some work will require a complete overhaul with work being required to be handed in by tomorrow, I was concerned the work won't be at a good enough standard. I just found out it was all a false alarm and that it was merely a clerical error, I will not be expected to resubmit my work by tomorrow.

FMP (VERSION 2)

Proposal

Note

My second attempt at a proposal turned out a lot better and incorporated my concept. My treatment aligned really well with my FMP but I felt my bibliography was lacking while I feel my research was limited, being stuck to movies and tv shows.

Project Concept

My FMP will be a teaser based off my previous work from Unit 10 (Engaging with an Audience in Creative). Unit 10 required me to create and pitch a short video. My FMP will be targeted towards teenagers, the teaser will consist of visual and audio queues as well as a script, it will also feature horror elements while holding a tone of suspense. The teaser will also feature a narration with a sequence of visual effects alongside it. My FMP will feature research, character profile, reflection and bibliography documents. The research will include an in-depth look into the TV shows, movies and stories that have inspired me. My character profile documents will feature my fictional characters looks, backstory and personality. I will make comparisons with the characters from the TV shows and movies that inspired me. My reflection will feature my personal and professional opinion on how I conduct my work. The bibliography will be presented in a Harvard format and will include websites, books and articles that I will take advantage of to reach my end goal of having a well thought out and complete FMP. Treatment

Note

I surpassed my treatment outline including but not limited to the duration, the stories outline and the target audience, fortunately my feedback confirms this.

Name – Bradley Halliwell

Title – The Mystery of Stocknisgrange

Genre – Horror & Mystery

Duration – 2 mins

Target Audience – My targeted audience is teenagers; topics including violence, drugs, gore, death and sexual content are allowed to be included but should not be endorsed nor should they be shown on screen for a long period of time.

Outline – In a small, mysterious town, an isolated individual is on the edge of unravelling a dangerous truth. As cryptic messages, including one carved into their front door, hint at an unseen observer, the narrator reveals a chilling secret: they've created a device capable of catastrophic destruction. While they struggle with what they think is paranoia and the fear of their invention falling into the wrong hands.

A fire breaking out in the cabin allows the stalker to take advantage of the situation, the stalkers actions lead to dire consequences but with the disappearance of the inventor, Kael Virek, who's going to stop this now dangerous individual.

Character Breakdown – Your main characters:

Young adult male with brown hair, blue eyes, slim muscular build and sharp aristocratic features.

Young adult male with brown hair, grey eyes, slim muscular build and sharp aristocratic features.

Audio Elements – What sound elements will you include and how will you produce them?
• Effects (Foley) – Heavy breathing, glass crunching, thumping, crows cawing, growling, distortion and fire sound effects.

Rationale – Why you chose this idea; why will it make a good project? List the skills that you have and the techniques that you have or plan to develop and can therefore use.

I chose this idea because of my frequent endeavours in watching shows and films targeted towards teenagers. Being skilful at creating websites, photography, and being able to format and write scripts will lessen my workload. Due to using premier pro in the past and frequently at that, I believe I will find using premiere pro easier to use but I need still need to further develop my knowledge of it before being skilful at it.

Primary and Secondary Research – Specific research that backs up your idea (how have you gathered your research/ information/ data and why is your plan relevant to it?

My primary research consists of a plethora of shows with teenagers as a target audience and will also include a brief definition of the age range of a teenager and whether it varies, country to country.

Requirements & Resources – Cast - Bradley Halliwell (camera operator, director, script writer and researcher)

Constraints and Contingency – My main constraint is time. To avoid it becoming an issue, I will create a system, where I commit to a certain number of minutes or hours to working on different aspects of my project, while having a reflection journal that I will also treat as a reminder to my next steps. I am also considering creating an Eisenhower matrix (a time management tool that helps organise tasks by urgency and importance), this may lead to complications but I believe it will help me in the long run

Legal and Ethical Considerations – To avoid any legal issues, I will not upload it to any social media platforms, there are no ethical references in my work

Proposed Schedule – 16 May 2025

Unedited Script

Note

My unedited version of my script was a plethora of rough ideas and not in the proper structure. I was pleased with this idea but I didn't think it through which led to problems.

Note

My more refined script included more detail and was structured better. By the time I had refined it, I was very pleased at the state it was in.

Reflection

Note

My reflection ended up being an afterthought but I was happy with the amount of detail I included. My reflection also helped me keep track of what still needed to be done

27 February 2025 – stuck on ideas, asking people their ideas, started the proposal, coming up with the idea as I go along, thought of doing radio drama, decided to move away from that as I did that for my last FMP, thinking of presenting my current FMP on wix.

5 March 2025 – I wrote my project concept out today and I decided to have it interconnect with my previous unit 10 (Engaging with an Audience in Creative). Which required me to create and pitch a short video. I decided my FMP would be a trailer to represent this pitched video. It took me a while to come to this idea, but I decided early on that my FMP should relate to one of my previous units works.

6 March 2025 – Writing an evaluation came easy to me, I wrote out what my standard was when it came to getting external feedback but I decided to take it a step further and instead of getting feedback only after completing my FMP I'd get feedback during the process also, the feedback would mainly be from class mates as to the progression and confirmation of each step of the process, while I'd ask my peers whether the idea and look of the FMP sounded appealing. Next, I wrote out my proposed research sources, I decided to again expand my horizons and instead of depending on one type of source I've decided to expand my sources outside of websites.

12 March 2025 – Feedback I received on previous work has unexpectedly delayed me; my attention has now turned to other pieces of work. My current work will now be put on hold. I don't find it to be an issue though.

13 March 2025 – Previous unit work is now on the forefront of my mind, My FMP has continued to be put on hold, and I've come to the realisation my FMP proposal will need an overhaul due to a mix- up with a previous unit. I have also been informed work needs to be resubmitted by next week. This has become rather stressful. I don't feel confident the work will be in on time.

19 March 2025 – I have continued working on the previous units work but I was concerned some work will require a complete overhaul with work being required to be handed in by tomorrow, I was concerned the work won't be at a good enough standard. I just found out it was all a false alarm and that it was merely a clerical error, I will not be expected to resubmit my work by tomorrow.

26 March 2025 – It was unnecessary for me to be concerned about previous work as they have all been passed, and due to feedback, I am now back on top when it comes to the progression of my FMP. I have managed to create a research folder, and I have started creating a research document which features and discusses my target audience in greater detail. I am also following my guidelines, and I have created a feedback form to get a better understanding make the I'm very pleased with my position in my work now and I've managed to make good progress into my FMP.

2 April 2025 – I didn't make much progress today, I accidentally repeated work I had done previously due to my bad organisation, this slip-up cost me thirty minutes. For the rest of the day, I remained stumped. This incident frustrated me to no end, I hope to expand on my research task but I remain concerned on how its going to go because of the complications my FMP has caused so far, including but not limited to having to completely overhaul my initial idea.

3 April 2025 – I managed to create a primary research document and I managed to do it with ease due to having access to the necessary information, courtesy of the Internet. I studied the initial response to the show Euphoria and it went very successful and I faced no hiccups. I managed to Breakdown the varying responses from teens while including the websites into my references document. I hope to do an in-depth look into another show targeted towards teens in my next venture

4 April 2025 – I spent some time looking for a TV show targeted towards teenagers that had a similar plot to my story and I found Hannibal, a FBI agent who isolates himself, under suspicion he's being watched. After reading the summary I decided to include this into my document due to the similarities, story wise. I only managed to implement a summary into my research document but next time, I plan to include the plot in my research document.

9 April 2025 – Instead of continue working on my research document, I decided to turn my attention to my rather neglected reflection journal and I improved it in places that lacked detail. I'm happy with the improvements I've made, which means I will turn my attention back to my research document next time.

10 April 2025 - I did turn my attention back to my research document today and wrote out the plot for the TV show "Hannibal." Unfortunately though an error cost me time due to writing out the plot of the incorrect show with the same name. After I realised my mistake, I reverse searched with the summary I had of the show and I found the correct show but by this point, I had run out of time. I plan to continue my research document next time.

12 April 2025 - I managed to complete my research document with no further incident today and I decided to move on to my treatment document, I realise I should of completed my treatment document prior to my research document but I can apply what I write in my treatment document to future work I do. I didn't make much progress but I used the official age ratings guidelines to make sure my work coincided with what the guidelines asked to receive a teen rating. I believe my story does and I'm pleased with this but the feedback I received on the twenty-six of March supports my belief. Tomorrow I plan on continuing to work on my treatment document.

13 April 2025 – I managed to complete my treatment while learning of a new method to planning out my work from here on out, I'm not sure whether I'll use it now because of my use of the reflection journal and schedule document but I'm glad to have found out about the Eisenhower Matrix since I can use it in my day-to-day life as well as in my future work. I'm not sure where I'll go from here next time but I think I will start by better organising my documents, and then start my script and fix my bibliography

16 April 2025 – I decided to organise my files by differentiating them from the documents that incorporated my old idea and my new idea, I'm hoping this will help when it comes to using documents as evidence. I also managed to include links in my bibliography that I had saved in a separate document. I also managed to start my script but I'm concerned how bad the formatting is. I'm also concerned in what direction to take the story since I didn't think this far ahead but instead, I'm trying to expand on my script from Unit 9. I plan on continuing this venture tomorrow.

17 April 2025 – My first excursion was to continue my script, I managed to brainstorm ideas on the spot and quickly expanded on the many ideas, I managed to continue the script writing with ease because of this but I'm concerned it's not long enough to be adequate. I hope to continue my script writing again soon.

23 April 2025 - I unfortunately let my reflection journal fall wayside so I spent some time improving and having my reflection caught up. My next venture had me continuing to add and make improvements to my script and fill in any gaps, I'm still concerned about the length of the script but I believe it's coming along nicely. I do not have all the images I hope to use in my script, so I've decided to use AI, it looks really positive and also possible for me to use AI for the images. I managed to transfer some images to a word document, ready for when I start to bring the script to life. Tomorrow, I hope to further expand my script.

24 April 2025 – I hit some hard roadblocks when it came to using AI to create and edit the needed images. There was delays when it came to the editing process and I've come to realise, some of the photos I took aren't good enough or aren't similar to what I had in mind, so I plan to address this issue at a later date. I'm making slow progress on my sound effects and I've spent some time attempting to further my script length and incorporate more sound effects, but I don't believe it's enough but I'm yet to get feedback on the usage of sound effects. I will continue to work on my script tomorrow and I will create a feedback form in order to gather more ideas and find improvements for my script in its current state.

7 May 2025 – After being unwell due to illness, my first day back proved difficult. I ended up running in circles. I attempted to use my schedule document to my bearings on what still needed to be done but unfortunately it was outdated. A few weeks ago I gathered some images and videos I attended to use in my premiere pro project. I hadn't gathered all the images yet, so I continued gathering photos I had taken over the last few weeks and while doing this, I had an epiphany to apply a comic book filter to the images, so I ran the images through AI and had it apply a comic book filter to them

8 May 2025 – Today, I ended up on premiere pro and I managed to make really good progress. For the first half of the script, I stuck to it but a quickly diverged from the order of the script and made minute changes which mainly consisted of very minute changes like the sound effects. An issue I came across was the images I needed that I didn't have photos of, I.e. A leaking gas boiler, a destroyed cabin and a candle wick flickering in a dark room. So, I used ChatGPT to create the missing images. I made very good progress today and I hope to continue it tomorrow. I'm happy with the progress I made today but I'm still concerned about having to put everything in a collage.

9 May 2025 – I realised this morning that I forgot to create an intro and outro for the trailer so I rushed creating it using YouTube to assist me, but I wasn't happy with it, but I've decided to redirect my attention to creating the collage and I've left my FMP as is. I started using Wix but after a lot of problems, I decided to use an alternative (Webnode), but I struggled to create an account. The end of lesson came quickly and I've decided to attend College next week for the entire week instead of just my assigned days.

12 May 2025 – I had success with accessing Web node today, but the progress seems slow. Not having used Web node before it's all new to me but I've had classmates assist me and help me learn the UI. I managed to create a web page for Unit 13, and I managed to add all the necessary documents to it. I ran out of time, and I'm concerned about completing the portfolio. To ease my nerves, I'll try and do work from home but I'm afraid I don't have access to the necessary applications such as the software.

13 May 2025 – The work is turning out to be very tedious, having to screenshot documents. And it's going very slowly, and unfortunately my contingency plan of working from home hasn't worked out since I don't have access to the necessary applications. My contingencies focus was using PowerPoint and Word from home, and I wasn't expecting to have to create a portfolio using a website builder. But I'm rolling with the punches, and my spontaneous contingency plan was to go to college on my off days

14 May 2025 – Uploading most of my work from unit 9 on to my website was a breeze until it came to adding my script. At first, I tried screenshotting, but it became very tedious after the 20th screenshot. Next, I attempted to copy and paste the script into my website but doing this caused the website to crash. Instead of looking for an alternative, I tried to copy and paste it multiple times and this proved the right idea since it eventually. For next time, I'm not sure what I'm going to do, I just hope it doesn't happen again.

15 May 2025 – Fortunately, the other units didn't cause me trouble, when it came to copying the work into my website, but it has still been very slow going. I didn't come into any problems today, but I'm concerned about the stability of the website. If something happens, I'm afraid I'll be stumped since this is my contingency plan. I'm holding out hope that the website stays stable and if doesn't, I don't what I'll do. If I come to this problem in the future, I'll instead an alternative website builder.

16 May 2025 – Creating my portfolio has turned out to be very stressful, due to the issues with Web node and the mindless job of having to take endless screenshots but I believe my work is now ready to hand in.

19 May 2025 - Things turned out not so cut and dry and I quickly discovered a lot of the work I posted wasn't updated, so today I've scrambled to gather all the necessary and updated work and put them in place of my old screenshotted work. I still remain comfortable in the position I find myself in. And I intend to hand my website in.

Afterthoughts

I'm so pleased, and I remain proud of what I've been able to create. Next time, I plan on looking into alternative website builders and an easier option than having to screenshot all my work. If I end up having to create a trailer again, in the future, I'll focus on different genres and target audiences, since throughout this academic year, I tended to lean into the horror genre when it came to creating projects.

Overall, throughout this academic year I have remained positive on the outcome of most of my work besides unit 9 which, due to things out of my control, it wasn't possible for me to create my idea on Unity due to multiple issues and unit 13 due to the problems with the website builder. Looking back though, I remained unimpeded when it came to my unit work which means my contingency plains remained far and few in-between.

Schedule

Note

My schedule ended up being an afterthought because of how broad it was and I ended up using my reflection journal as a schedule instead.

EVALUATION

Note

My evaluation allowed for a lot of critical thinking to take place and I found it very interesting at having to reflect on the progress.  Being able to evaluate my work also made me realise what I could have done differently like making my script more transparent and making it more flexible.

Format – Unity

Describe the product you produced – My product is a remaster from unit 10 which required me to create a product targeted towards tween audience. Unfortunately, the product missed the mark but for unit 13 I decided to take the idea and crank it to 11. I raised the target audience to teens and doubled down on the mature themes.

I first started working on my planning documents which included a proposal, treatment, schedule and reflection.

My next step was to focus on the research aspect which turned out well. I focused on my target audience and what my target audience was and meant.

Afterwards, I redirected my attention towards working on my script. My script ended up being a complete rewrite. I was concerned the script wasn't long enough but fortunately that wasn't to be.

Then I turned my attention to gathering the necessary images and it turned out really well. From photographs I had taken, I ran them through AI and had a light bulb moment to incorporate a comic book filter onto the images. I ended up being very pleased with the outcome of each photo.

My second to last step was to create the actual idea using Premier Pro which went off without a hitch. The creation was straightforward and simple while far exceeding my expectations and guidelines.

Throughout creating my proposal and script I gathered feedback and made sure it aligned with the rest of my research, which fortunately, it did.

How have you contextualised your product – I've contextualised my product by raising my target audience while also better aligning my product to the target audience.

What aspects of the production went well – Besides going through multiple different concepts, proposals and scripts. The planning went very well, and allowed me to use critical thinking. The script also surprisingly turned out very well, because I tend to struggle with keeping the script long enough and it usually lacks structure and detail. Surprisingly, the product itself on premiere pro turned out very well also, since I hadn't come into any issues.

What feedback I received from my peers – all the feedback was very positive and remained so throughout the project. The feedback didn't cause me to make any changes but discussed concern for the length of the script which fortunately didn't become an issue.

What would you do differently – I would take on board more critical thinking and take step back sooner rather than later to avoid multiple rewrites. I would also create contingencies to get a hold of images not immediately available to me, since a lot of my planning fell through due to not having access to some images.

Overall, throughout this academic year I have remained positive on the outcome of most of my work besides unit 9 which, due to things out of my control, it wasn't possible for me to create my idea on Unity due to multiple issues While unit 13 was a problem due to issues with the website builder. Looking back though, I remained unimpeded when it came to my unit work which means my contingency plains remained far and few in-between.
